Limb Difference Gripping Aid - Features and Benefits

The Limb Difference gripping aid is designed for users who have a limb difference affecting their hands or fingers. This may include those with Dysmelia (conditions from birth), or those who have sustained a limb difference through amputation, injury or illness later in life. The Limb Difference gripping aid is perfect for those who have some or all of their fingers, or parts of their hand, missing. As long as the user has some widening at their wrist the grip should work. Note: A wider section of the wrist is required as an anchor point to transfer the pulling force to, when using the gripping aids.

The Limb Difference aid has a double-strap system, once the wrist section is done up you fix the item you wish to hold in your palm using the inner Velcro strap. When this is done you can hold the item firmly in place using the longer strap that comes over the back of your hand, through the buckle and back over the object.

Examples of use:

• Accessing equipment in the gym, kitchen or garden

• Holding the handlebars of a bike

Holding oars for rowing or kayaking

• Weightlifting

About Active Hands:

Active Hands became an award-winning product in 2011 after receiving the Stelios Disabled Entrepreneur Award (UK). The gripping aids were created by wheelchair user Rob Smith who experienced a high-level spinal cord injury that caused partial paralysis in all four limbs. Rob was frustrated by the limitations caused by his poor hand function and the lack of suitable equipment available to help him, so designed a range of aids to help people lead more independent lives.
